Betagro and Partners Foster Community Development in Lao PDR with ‘BETAGRO Saijai Cares Mekong Communities’ Initiative

Bangkok – 29 June 2026 – Betagro Public Company Limited (BTG), a leading integrated food company in Thailand, has launched the “BETAGRO Saijai Cares Mekong Communities” project, in Ban Nakay, Khammouane province, Lao PDR, aiming to foster community development and food sustainability. The initiative focuses on improving access to quality protein, developing agricultural knowledge, and building local food security, ultimately enhancing livelihoods and promoting sustainable self-reliance.

The “BETAGRO Saijai Cares Mekong Communities” project marks Betagro’s inaugural contribution to community development in Lao PDR. This initiative is a collaborative effort with the Lao PDR government, Betagro PCL, Betagro (Lao) Co., Ltd., and Aden Group.

Lao PDR has been selected as the initial pilot area for community development in the broader Mekong region – an area characterized by deep interconnections in economy, society, and natural resources, and holding significant long-term development potential.

Supported by the Lao PDR government, this project specifically aims to improve the quality of life for approximately 800 families and employees residing in communities surrounding the Nam Theun 2 hydropower project. These residents currently face limited access to quality protein, a challenge the project addresses by bringing together essential knowledge, expertise, and resources to tackle this shortage.

Betagro’s recent contributions include funding the renovation of the egg-laying chicken house, donating 100 laying hens, and supplying 450 kilograms of Betagro (Lao) poultry feed. Complementing this, a specialist team from Betagro (Lao) Co., Ltd. delivered on-site training, covering essential aspects such as egg-laying chicken husbandry, hygiene management, egg handling, and effective farm management, thereby equipping the community with practical, self-sustainable skills for the future.

In addition to improving access to quality protein, the project also seeks to build food security through vocational support and knowledge transfer. This empowers communities to generate supplementary income, achieve self-sufficiency, and enhance their long-term quality of life, ultimately serving as a prototype for community development in other regions.

The project aligns with the “BETAGRO Saijai” concept, reflecting Betagro’s commitment to food sustainability. This commitment is central to its five-pillar sustainability strategy, particularly in Food Quality and Safety and Community Development, both of which prioritize inclusive growth for all stakeholders.

As Thailand’s leading integrated food company, Betagro applies its expertise in comprehensive food production to generate shared value and enhance people’s lives. The “BETAGRO Saijai Cares Mekong Communities” project significantly expands sustainable community development regionally through food security promotion, knowledge transfer, and community growth, ultimately advancing balanced economic, social, and environmental development for an improved quality of life and a sustainable future for all.
