Betagro’s FIC focuses on developing food products and innovations as well as conducting researches on modern food processing and packaging technologies. FIC’s experienced team works closely with academic networks from both public and private sectors around the world. With care and attention to every product development step from selecting ingredients with the highest quality and safety to combining engineering and food science knowledge with sensory science, cooking arts and food safety, the result is product and service innovations which are “Food products of the future”. Besides responding to consumers’ needs and preference, these products offer them better quality of life and at the same time support research and development work of Betagro’s food product business.

Betagro’s new 4,000-square-meter pilot plant in Thailand houses a modern laboratory to inspect food, meat, sausages and packaging; a sensory laboratory; and training facilities for customers’ experience. This pilot plant is designed as a place to enable the development of concepts into sellable products and to test the concepts using scientific methods with Betagro’s customers. Examples of products and packaging developed by FIC are:

S-Pure Products

FIC succeeded in developing premium quality food products under the S-Pure brand including pork, chicken and chicken eggs. S-Pure is the first brand in the world to receive a Raise Without Antibiotics – RWA certification from NSF International, and the supply chain in every production step can be traced back. Based on research and development, Betagro selected 3 swine breeds to produce soft, juicy and better quality pork for S-Pure pork products.
In addition, according to the information from Singapore Food Agency, Betagro is the first company in Thailand to export frozen chicken to Singapore under the S-Pure brand, reflecting Betagro’s international high standard. S-Pure products have also been more accepted by consumers as shown in the CAGR of Betagro’s sale at 23% from 2019 to 2021.

New Plastic Packaging

Previously, Betagro consumed up to 600 tons of plastic bags for meat per year. FIC, therefore, developed High Density Polyethylene or HDPE to replace the original materials. As a result, the Company could reduce the thickness and the quantity of plastic used by 30% or approximately over 210 tons per year. This equals to a 35% reduction of Betagro’s carbon foot print.

Alternative Protein Products

FIC introduced new alternative protein products in line with health product trends, consumers’ focus on strong health and more alternative products. At the same time, this is another important step in building food stability with alternative protein including protein from vegetables. Alternative protein can help solve future food shortage problems.
In May 2022, Betagro launched new alternative protein products under the Meatly! brand. These ready-to-cook products, which can be used in many dishes, are made from soybean as the main ingredient offering high protein and fiber, wheat and rice bran oil. The products are developed by food scientists and are made from sustainable sources of protein. By using Betagro Plant-Based Protein Innovation Technology, ที่the products imitate the texture, taste and appearance of meats. Furthermore, Betagro continues to cooperate with nutritionists from both inside and outside the organization to develop products that are beneficial to health such as high protein products.
